Publishing

Archive Futures, the publishing strand of the Re:assemblages programme, is the inaugural publishing project of the Guest Artists Space (G.A.S.) Foundation and the Yinka Shonibare Foundation (Y.S.F.). This foundational editorial series expands on three years of comprehensive research, residencies, and convenings to introduce new publishing on African and Afro-diasporic art and literature archives. The 2026-27 release will result in the publication of print editions, essay commissions, and the Archive Futures digital repository, which archives the three-year Re:assemblages programme and Year 1 of the African Arts Libraries Lab (AAL Lab) and Affiliates Network.

G.A.S. Publish

Archive Future Essay Series
Launch: Winter 2026
Hosted on G.A.S. Publish, this digital series commissions ten essays across two strands:

  • Strand 1: Notes on Convenings — A reflection published after each convening; part document, part argument, sitting with the archives, ideas, and unresolved questions each convening presents.

  • Strand 2: Artists as Libraries — Pairs senior artists with early-career writers around themes the artist defines, responding to the relative absence of public archives on contemporary African and Afro-diasporic artistic practice.

Archive Futures Repository
Launch: January 2027
A digital toolkit archiving the three year Re:assemblages programme and the inaugural year of the African Arts Libraries (AAL Lab) Network.

G.A.S. Publish is powered by Archival Consciousness, and our print editions.
