On 27 May 2025, the Yinka Shonibare Foundation convened a Private View and guided tour for patrons and alumni at The Africa Centre, London, spotlighting the latest iteration of the travelling exhibition In Transit Under Another Sky. The event marked a significant moment in the trajectory of a project that emerged from Art Exchange: Moving Image, a curatorial development programme dedicated to amplifying the voices of early and mid-career curators from Sub-Saharan Africa. The event also formed part of the British Council’s UK/Kenya Season of Culture 2025, situating the exhibition within a wider transnational arts ecology. A post-tour conversation between exhibiting artists SCARLETTMOTIFF and Larry Achiampong further deepened the discursive space of the evening, foregrounding themes of mobility, identity, and cinematic practice across diasporic and continental African contexts.

The exhibition has traversed various geographies and contexts, embodying the ethos of Art Exchange: Moving Image, a platform initiated by LUX, Yinka Shonibare Foundation, and Guest Artists Space (G.A.S.) Foundation, in partnership with the British Council. Rooted in a pedagogical framework that prioritises co-creation, translocal exchange, and critical engagement with the moving image, the project’s evolving presentations in Kampala and Nairobi formed both groundwork and counterpoint to the London iteration.

Curated by G.A.S. alumnus Rosie Olang’ Odhiambo and incoming resident E.N. Mirembe, the exhibition has been evolving through multi-site workshops conducted in Kampala, Dar es Salaam, and Nairobi since May 2024. These workshops were shaped through an intergenerational and cross-disciplinary dialogue with British-Ghanaian artist and filmmaker Larry Achiampong, catalysed during the curator's week-long residency in December 2023.
